Flames Fire Flickers In Dalton 16-U Showdown

USFA Showdown on the Diamonds Tourney -  3rd Elim Game
Late Score By Georgia Attitude Sends Flames Packing

Edwards Park, Dalton GA -- April 29,2007

As the Flames venture into the 16-U ranks it appears that good teams take advantage of "the little things".  On Sunday in Dalton it was in the form of a couple of 3rd inning Flames errors and then followed by advancing a runner two bases to score on a fielders choice in the bottom of the 5th.   The result was a disheartening 3-2 loss to the Georgia Attitude.  "I think we might be undefeated this year if we could pick one inning from each loss and remove it from the score book", denoted an unnamed Flame fan in the stands on Sunday.

As has been the case most of the time, the Flames pitching has been more than good enough to win.  Starter Megan Light and reliever Meghan Whipple only gave up two hits.   Two hit batsmen to start the bottom of the 5th would be the demise as the Flames barely missed  turning an inning-ending 6U-3 double play.   With the missed out at 1st, an Attitude player on 2nd base snuck  all the way to home to push across what was the eventual winning run.

The Flames collected eight hits but couldn't get the big hit at the big time.  Scoop Foulke had 2 singles, and Jennifer Yancey, Brittany Van Frayen, Whipple, Light, Liz Schneider and Mary Quattrocchi each had singles.

Flames Bounce Back With 6-0 Win Over Hiram Raiders

Edwards Park, Dalton GA -- April 28,2007

Maddie Higginbotham blasted a one-ball, two-strike fastball into the right center gap for a 5th inning triple to clear the bases and give the Flames a 5-0 lead.  Higginbotham's then finished her quad-tastic base adventure  by stealing home to  give the North Fulton Flames some late inning breathing room on Saturday night.  The Flames had a tough time getting things going early but then scored once in the 4th, once in the 5th and then had the big 4-run 6th.  Adding singles for the Flames were Scoop Foulke, Megbug Light, Allie Davis, Jennifer Yancey, Brittany Van Frayen and Mary Q.

The Raiders only two hits of the night were their bats flying out of their hands and slamming against the bleacher fences as the Flames pitching duo of Megan Light and Meghan Whipple no-hit the Hiram gang.

Collins Hill Thumps Flames 6-0

Edwards Park, Dalton GA -- April 28,2007

Collins Hill pitching dominated the Flames and only allowed 2 Flame hits and sent the North Fulton gang to the losers bracket in their first elimination game.  The crafty right hander worked the outside corner of the plate so effective that 8 out of the first 9 outs were strikeouts.   A 4th inning double by Jennifer Yancey and a 2nd inning single by Liz Schneider were all the offense the Flames could muster.

Andrea Cole went the distance for the Flames.

Georgia Titans 8-Run 1st Too Much For Flames

Edwards Park, Dalton GA -- April 28,2007

The Georgia Titans came roaring out of the gates and slapped a 1st inning snowman on the scoreboard and cruised to a 9-0 shellacking of the Flames.  The Titans collected 9 hits and limited the Flames to just singles by Erika Hoffner, Liz Schneider and Brittany Van Frayen.

Meghan Whipple started for the Flames and went 3 innings.  Andrea Cole finished up with one inning of work.

Flames Nip Roswell Riptide in Tourney Opener

Edwards Park, Dalton GA -- April 28,2007

The Flames pushed across a run in the 5th inning to take the opener against a good Roswell Riptide team.   The Flames banged out 7 hits and the pitching corps of Megan Light and Andrea Cole stifled the bats of the Riptide by allowing only 3 hits.   Scoop Foulke led the assault with her 2nd inside-the-park homer in as many weeks and also had a double.  Jennifer Yancey had a double and a single and Liz Schneider had a double.  Erika Hoffner and Megan Light contributed singles.
